Flip - New Game in Beta!
Hey, announcing a new puzzle game here! Flip! It's about reflecting across lines to get to the goal. In the play-testing we've done so far, people have enjoyed it a lot!
I had the idea when I decided to make a puzzle game. So I went to the Wikipedia page on Geometry and, down the rabbit hole, I got to Transformations. I decided Reflection had the most potential, so I went with it. I think I'll do a few more puzzle games after this one.
So go ahead and try it out!
I should mention that on Firefox it may look a bit blurry.
I thought I'd talk a little bit about the workings for those of you who are curious: It uses a few things I've never done before. For one thing, it uses SVG Graphics. Wooo. I do the reflections with a matrix. SVG (and CSS3 for that matter) supports transformations with matrix. So I needed to find a matrix for reflecting a point across a line. Well, that was fun. And I came up with one beautiful matrix.
Another thing I did was collect data. I've never done this before, but for a puzzle game I think it's vital. Every time you finish a level, it beams me how long it took and how many moves you made. Hopefully this will help me scale the difficulty.
It'll also help me do something which I'll advertise more prominently later. I'm planning on making it infinite. But not with automatic generation; that could be boring. Instead, I'll see when someone's on the second-to-last level or so, and throw together a few more levels for them. All scaling in difficulty. And this mechanic has the potential to get. Really. Hard.
So yeah, if you haven't already, try out our new game Flip!
