Have you ever noticed that when you type interesting and your right hand is off, it types Interestomg? Well that happened to me. Anyway, on with my idea. As you probably know, I consider myself a communist. I think most of the problems in this world could be resolved by removing inequality and private property. And I also think that the idea that it "doesn't work" is ridiculous; it's never been correctly tried.
However, that's not the point of my post. The other day I was talking with GiantSquid, and I thought of an interesting system that would ensure equality, while maintaining private property, which a lot of people desire. Now, let me state that I do not endorse this idea. I'm still a communist. I'm just putting this idea out there. It's a bit like socialism, but more extreme. It's a little hard to describe, so I'll try my best.
I've had a huge Computer Crash that I'm going to talk about later. For this reason I haven't blogged or worked on any games for a while now, and it'll be a while until I can start again. In order to restore the computer, I needed to downgrade to Windows 8. Of course, I could upgrade to Windows 8.1 at this point, but I chose not to.
Let me start with this: I think Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 are great OSs. I also think Windows 8.1 is a superior Operating System, on its own, to Windows 8. The support for dual monitors, which is very important for me, is better. Also, the start button's back. I didn't think that was such a great improvement until I got back to Windows 8. Functionally, it's not important. But aesthetically, it's vital. The exposé is kind of ugly in that area near the taskbar. The button is better. Also, the way Metro Apps are treated somewhat... So I've been working on improving Cosine Gaming to work on decreasing my bounce rate. A bounce rate is the rate of people who take a look at your page and go, "Hell with this s***," leaving without exploring your site, clicking a link, or doing anything you want them to do. Basically, they're not interested, it's not what they're looking for, or they're afraid of your website. All of which are things I don't want. So I've been trying to decrease my bounce rates, and get people interacting and engaged with my site.
The bad thing about this, though, is that we just don't know why people act, and what they think. So I've improved my survey page, and I'm hoping to drive more traffic to it. If you'd like, go ahead and throw some feedback at it. Hopefully better understanding what people think about Cosine... (Read full post)
It's time I reveal one of the things I've been working on most recently. I've been preparing the Indigo Engine to create my newest game, Frost. I'll go over the gameplay when it's more clear, but until then, here's a story that takes place in the setting of Frost.
They say that after the frost, the only way people die is to a bullet or to cancer. Neither is a pleasant death, but Heet would always rather die from a shot. It’s cleaner that way, and a bit quicker. The idea of his genes mutating and growing wildly just makes him shiver. There’s no cure for cancer, either. That must be why they did away with doctors - there’s no point to them anymore. People shoot to kill nowadays, anyway. They need fuel. For their lives to go on a little longer, ‘till they die of cancer. Not like there’s much in their lives, other than just getting more fuel, and maybe some snacks on whatever dead meat... Most other schools in the country are inherently flawed. The system of running kids through classes, treating them with bleach, and hoping they stay white. No matter how much they learn, or how much they’re poisoned by boredom, we do the same thing to each one.
One necessary basic change is the obsession with competition and “achievement.” Simply the existence of the “Honor Roll” program is evidence of this. The way it’s treated is even worse. Honor Roll is supposed to be motivation to students to try to achieve their best. But instead, it simply makes people that don’t achieve it feel like “failures.” The way it’s treated doesn’t help. In the 8th grade assembly this year, I heard the words, “each of you has the capability to achieve Honor Roll,” far too many times. Honor Roll should not be something you should get, and if you haven’t gotten, you’re subpar. It should be an accomplishment. But even as... (Read full post)
